Here’s one to get you started and inspired this morning. In which Twitter stage are you? Recognition is the first step to improvement, so maybe realizing that you’re in “Dumping” helps you getting to no. 5.
One tip to get you started: send @replies which aren’t too interesting for other people via a DM.
Some people I know are already there and it’s just awesome to follow them. They find great stuff, have funny conversations, and thus enrich my Twitter experience. Check out Pixites for an example. Who’s your favorite Twitter user?

Okay, so I am a stage 5′er. Favourite microblogger is hard, lots of them: @imjustcreative, @HolyGod, @stephenfry, and lots of people more.
lol that is no funny, I did all of those steps.
I can remember when I thought it was dumb and stupid and now I use it more than any other site :p
I am trying to avoid Stage #3 while trying to develop relationships with enough people so that I can confidently state that I am in either Stage #4 or #5. But it’s rather tough jumping in there and engaging strangers…
My problem with twitter is that hardly anyone I know actually uses it so it’d be a bit pointless for me to start using it!
Facebook status updates will have to do for now.
yeah, and what is “useful stuf”? stupid/useless distinction bewteen stage 4 and 5 for me
“authentic 1×1 conversations” wtf?! is that marketing droid for chatting?
Don’t mean to sound like a downer here but aren’t the five steps you listed just:
1. Not Using Tool
2. Enabling Tool
3. Using Tool Lightly
4. Ramping up use of Tool
5. Using Tool Regularly
Doesn’t seem like a particularly profound list. In fact it looks like five steps that could be applied to just about any online tool. In fact, any tool in general. Works for bicycles as an example.
This post seems more like someone announcing the theory that people prefer to not get punched in the face and considering it revolutionary.
I don’t know how to use it .
