What is the name of your Wi-Fi network?

What is the name of your Wi Fi network? The (Holland-based) CoffeeCompany got  a lot of publicity recently because they continuously change the names of their Wi-Fi networks to persuade visitors to order more coffee. A few examples:

OrderAnotherCoffeeAlready
BuyCoffeeForCuteGirlOverThere?
HaveYouTriedCoffeeCake?
BuyAnotherCupYouCheapskate
TodaysSpecialExpresso1.60Euro
BuyaLargeLatterGetBrownieForFree

One of my neighbors uses a naughty SSID which I won’t reprint here.

My own network is called “VirusTrap63″ which I came up with to scare people into not joining. Yeah, I could also just secure it but that is just boring.

So what did you name your Wi-Fi router?
What would be a better name for my Wi-Fi network?
What funny SSIDs have you encountered?

Let us know!

  • Nachos. As in this network is nachos.
  • Roy Tomeij
Mine is "owb", which is kind of a abbreviation for the street where I live. My parents have b23 (first letter of street + house number) and at the office we just have our company name.

Guess I'm not that fancy when it comes to naming networks :)
  • We have named our office network "TheNextWeb.org". Should change it to .com but haven't bothered with it yet. Wonder how many visitors that generated... ;-)
  • It might be a good way to start communication with your neighbours. The digital variant of:
    http://www.lennartwolfert.nl/category/raampodia/ (Dutch)
    maybe?
  • Wow, that is hilarious!!!
  • Hahaha, brilliant. Too bad I don't have any neighbours :-)
  • Haha, this stuff is brilliant. IM'ing, just not so instant anymore I guess.
  • Bram
Mine is called "Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Baby"
  • CasaMan
My ssid is "De Politie"' for years now.. Wonder if it's more effective scaring people off. Probably not.
  • my own: stellar-gate01, stellar-gate02, FON_FREE_WIRELESS_INTERNET

and the funny one in my neighborhood is KGB
  • What did you name your Wi-Fi network? http://tinyurl.com/6atnde
  • Mine is "Home" ..a easy one :D
  • Roy Tomeij
    My local favorite: "Hell_On_Earth".
  • Thomas
    "ROGIERISEENEIKEL"

Which is dutch for 'ROGIER IS A PRICK'

Rogier is one of my dear flatmates.

    :-)
  • Just walk through your area with your iPhone or laptop open and refresh networks. this is what I found on Valencia Street in San Francisco: http://www.thenextcorner.com/2008/11/wordt-jouw...

    DG

This one I saw at Rooseveltlaan in Amsterdam: "Piaheefteenblokfluitinhaarkut"
  • Adrian
My home wi-fi is called "Skynet"...

Don't get the joke? Watch Terminator movies...
  • I'm sad to see open Wifi APs all but disappear. My own is the house name. 23trinityrd.public Last night I used one called "Sarah's laptop".
  • Mine is get_hacked that should keep the neighbors out...
  • Munky and Munkynet are my 2 networks.
  • SAURON
  • G-Spot
  • "renegade"

  • Ours is called "We Log Your Access".
  • "Debatable Space" which is the title of a book i'm reading and seemed relevant, and a "FON_PUBLIC"
  • Tijmen
Mine was "Bordeel_tHaantje", which must've weirded out the neighbours.
  • Mine is DV201AM which is by the way the standard name for all UPC wifi network. So what you think.... Well, standard the network is hidden but without password protection. So you have a fairly big chance of finding a Wifi network in the Netherlands
  • Ah, what a shocking lack of creativity you all display.

I, on the other hand, thought long and hard and then came up with 'linksys'. I like it.
  • You are a GENIUS! How the hell did you come up with that??? Does your Wi-Fi network "Link" to your "Sys"? Is that it??? ;-)
  • It's actually a whole lot more complicated than that. I don't want to bore you with the details, but you've got that GENIUS right, that's for sure!
  • Our is called " U Mama".

U maakt verbinding met u mama!
  • khürt
Time Capsule. Because that's what it is.
  • vickup
We named our company network after our neighbors, since IT wont allow us to have a wireless connection :-)
  • My neighbors don't seem to have any interesting names for theirs... all "belkin", "linksys", etc... most of them protected. Very boring.

Mine is called "packetporter", and while not all that creative its at least open.
  • Pawel
My SSID is "RadioMaryja" - It's a name of very controversial catholic radio station in Poland.

  • Absolutely cute: What is the name of your Wi-Fi network? http://tinyurl.com/6atnde
  • Sjors

    <img src="http://data.tumblr.com/2m8BXUfri91uhaooY7GosHOT_400.jpg" alt="Hilarious!" />
  • Hilarious!!!
  • bas
We have one in the office called "sterf moederhoer" (die you motherwhore?). That should keep some people out... :-)
  • Years ago, while at work with the network department sniffing wireless AP's, I've changed the SSID to "Unknown Device". God, that was fun! Imagine in Windows XP in that sucky wifi management panel with a thing saying unknown device, it's clearly some driver missing.

The other great "prank" is to imitate the SSID of some public payed wifi AP, with the regular user/password login, but now, on your own machine ....

Now, I named my networks with the "wi-foo" ssid.
