Raise a glass as Twitter’s own wine goes on sale

As far as diversification goes, it’s a strange move for a technology company but after a year in the works, Twitter’s own brand of wine has launched.

This isn’t a crazy new monetization scheme though. The Fledgling Initiative is Twitter’s way of doing some social good while helping people enjoy a glass or five along the way. Proceeds from the sale of the wine will go non-profit organization Room To Read, helping them promote literacy in India.

As for the quality of the wine, Twitter’s Biz Stone says in a blog post today “These wines are being made using some of the best vineyards in California by the acclaimed winemaking team at Crushpad. Incidentally, 2009 appears to be an excellent vintage in California, potentially one of the best of the decade.”

If you order a case, just be careful not to drink and tweet. The wine is on sale in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties here.
