TNW Answers with Evan Greer

TNW Answers provides live AMAs with the world’s most influential thought leaders in business, design, and technology.

Speaker

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello calls Evan “a heck of a guitar player,” but she’s perhaps better known as an activist. She’s been on the frontlines of some of the most notable grassroots victories of the last decade, from defending net neutrality to helping free Chelsea Manning to keeping facial recognition surveillance out of music festivals. She's currently the campaign director for Fight for the Future, the viral digital rights nonprofit behind the largest online protests in history.

In 2019, the organization launched a campaign drawing attention to the dangers of facial recognition tech, and pushing for a US-wide ban on the technology. In 2020, the organization has also campaigned for the US government & private companies to take appropriate actions to contain the spread of COVID-19 without compromising the privacy and other human rights of the citizenry.

As a musician and speaker, Evan toured internationally, and facilitated interactive workshops to support movements for justice and liberation. When she’s not parenting, playing punk shows, or organizing Boston’s best queer dance party, Evan writes regularly for The Guardian, Washington Post, TIME, and Newsweek.
