How David Hasselhoff got Tikkie app to 6M users

Launched in 2016, Tikkie quickly became the number one payment app in NL leaving seven other solutions behind — Each Dutch bank had their own standalone P2P payment app, and even Paypal and Klarna tried to conquer the Dutch market.

Why did Tikkie manage to thrive?
Why did all other apps decide to pull the plug?
What’s exactly in Tikkie’s ‘secret sauce recipe’ that led to 6M users?

On May 6, we’re hosting the app designer Nelleke Harmse. She’ll take you behind the scenes, and you’ll find out exactly what it took — and what on earth ‘the Hoff’ has got to do with it. You’ll love this part!

You’ll learn how the app was validated, the strategy, the successes — but also some painful lessons they learned. Because we all know, creating products isn't all rainbows and sunshine.

Nelleke will reveal these four key learnings:

  • When Everybody Zigs, Zag
  • The Humor Effect
  • Always Test, Never Assume
  • The David Hasselhoff Rule

About

Tikkie is a P2P payment app that allows you to send payment requests via Whatsapp. It was built with five people in just three months as a startup within the Dutch bank ABN AMRO. Almost half of the Dutch population uses Tikkie. In 2019 the name was even added to the official Dutch dictionary as a verb.
