Is Photobucket Leaving MySpace?

Is Photobucket Leaving MySpace?

Word is now circulating that Photobucket might be leaving MySpace, following MySpace’s former employees and users. Photobucket was purchased by MySpace in 2007 for $250 million dollars, plus a $50 million dollar payout.

Now, just two years after the purchase, it seems that the love is lost, and PhotoBucket will be leaving the fold.

Photobucket reaches some 22 million people in the United States alone. It is unclear at this time why Photobucket might be leaving MySpace, but given that MySpace never integrated the service into their core product, the release is hardly surprising.

TechCrunch claims that Disney backed Ontela might be the purchaser of the website. Photobucket is one of the most popular websites on the internet, and easily one of the top photo sharing websites in existence.

MySpace continues to focus on  its core capabilities, and seems content to slough off any pieces that are not central to their vision. Expect more sales in the coming months.
