The first photo was uploaded to Instagram two years ago today. This is it.

The image you see below is the first photo ever shared on Instagram. It was uploaded two years ago today to an app called, at that point, Codename. It would become Instagram officially three months later in October of 2010.

This shot was uploaded by Instagram founder Kevin Systrom. Systrom says it was taken at Chilako tacos in Todos Santos. Note that the image is stored on an Amazon CDN called Distillery, likely a reference to the product that Instagram evolved from, a social app called Burbn. And it only has 146 likes, we should fix that.

Since then, 50 million people have uploaded 1 billion photos on Instagram. That’s just about how much dinero Facebook agreed to pay for the company earlier this year.
