While the Apollo space missions had their fair share of drama, there was room for moments of fun up on the moon too, even if there was no real atmosphere.

This great archive clip captures the moment NASA Astronauts Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernanon sang ‘The Fountain in the Park‘ during Apollo 17.

Watching astronauts joking around on a cold, dark rock hundreds of thousands of miles from home makes us wonder just how far manned space discovery could have gone if we’d really pushed harder at it. Showtunes on Mars? The Sound of Music on Mercury?
