PiixL’s SteamOS-compatible Jetpack PC hides neatly behind your TV. On sale next month

PiixL has launched a slimline PC called the Jetpack that slips in behind a flat-screen TV to act as a SteamOS gaming machine.

Rather than going down the dedicated SteamOS console route, PiixL’s machine is an open hardware platform that’s fully customizable by the user, and those fans that you can see below are “ultraquiet”, according to the company.

Under the bonnet, the SteamOS-optimized gaming rig has some serious spec options to handle the most demanding games, such as a Core i7 processor, up to 1TB of storage and a choice of Nvidia graphics cards.

The site notes that the machine has been designed to play nicely with Windows as well as SteamOS, but doesn’t specify exactly how this achieved – presumably though pre-installed dual-boot options. We’ll let you know when we receive a response to this question.

Designed to be tucked away behind TVs ranging in size from 32-inches to 70-inches, the PiixL Jetpack will be available from 1 January and start from around $1,000, according to Pocket-Lint.
