First, it was 10 minutes. Then, back in July, it went to 15. Now, according to the YouTube Blog, the site will be selecting some users to have that 15 minute limit raised even higher. While there is no statement of exactly how high (an ever-increasing limit, a-la Gmail storage?), YouTube simply says this:
Starting today, we’ll begin allowing selected users with a history of complying with the YouTube Community Guidelines and our copyright rules to upload videos that are longer than 15 minutes.
Want to find out if you’re one of the lucky ones? All you have to do is hit your Upload button on YouTube and you should find out. If you’ve happened to upload a video that was too long, previously, you’ll need to delete it from your videos before trying again.
It’s great news for the budding YouTube stars of today and tomorrow as well. Kudos to Google and the YouTube team for their continued efforts to make YouTube a better experience.
