Visual voicemail service YouMail has passed four million registered users and to mark the occasion, the firm has announced a premium Business Edition tailored to firms and professionals users.
YouMail can be accessed on the company’s Android and iOS apps, as well as through a standard Internet browser and a number of third party apps developed for Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8. It displays all of your voicemail in a list format, similar to email, where users can not only listen and reply to messages, but also read them due to an intelligent voicemail-to-text service.
The Business Edition extends some of YouMail’s well-established features, including Smart Greetings, which can respond to the caller by name. So for example, if Bob was to try to call me but I was unavailable, YouMail would automatically say: “Hi, Bob, Nick can’t come to the phone right now.” It’s simple, but smart.
The Business Edition allows for more personal and professional greetings, which can include the user’s full name, company name and other optional information.
The firm has also added additional storage to the mailbox, although it’s unclear exactly how much is on offer. YouMail says it’s “virtually unlimited”, which means that although there’s a ceiling, it’s probably one users will never reach. The company says other improvements will make it easier to combine, organize, and manage voicemail from both an office line and mobile phone.
Business users can also choose to have all of their voicemail sent to them in an email, either in a WAV or MP3 file format. The premium edition can also be setup to forward copies of important voice mail to colleagues or assistants who will be able to deal with them.
The Business Edition of YouMail will cost each user $6.99 per month, although at launch it can be snapped up for $4.99. By monetizing the product, the company has emphasized that the Business Edition is completely free of advertising, and also includes a permanent access number that can be given out to clients and customers.
Alex Quilici, CEO of YouMail, said: “We’ve added one million users in just the past six months, as YouMail is now spreading organically to our user’s family, friends and colleagues, and we’re now seeing a big chunk of our base using YouMail as a business productivity tool, whether it’s within a small business or a large enterprise.”
Headquartered in Irvine, California, YouMail is backed by VantagePoint Capital Partners, the Tech Coast Angels, the Tech Coast Angels ACE Fund, Siemer Ventures, and the CrunchFund.
