Adventurous videographers now have a new avenue to profit off their GoPro footage. The action-camera maker has launched a new content licensing portal that lets creative agencies and TV and film studios find and use quality GoPro videos, with prices starting at $1,000 per clip.
GoPro Licensing will showcase new and popular content, and enable search and filtering using rich meta-data. It will also offer features like at-a-glance video previews, lightboxes for collecting and sharing clips and batch downloads to make it easy for creative teams to locate footage for their next project.
According to AdWeek, the portal will feature over 600 videos from amateur and professional videographers who have signed licensing agreements with GoPro. As with other stock content services, prices for clips will vary depending on the nature of commercial use and distribution.
It’s interesting to see how GoPro is growing its business, starting from just making waterproof cameras you could stick to a helmet. In April, the company bought Kolor, a French firm focused on 360-degree ‘spherical media.
That’s not to say that GoPro has forgotten how to make cameras. It’s latest product, the Hero4, is smaller and lighter than previous models and is now on sale at $399.
