If you have an Amazon Echo and an Ecobee 3 connected thermostat, starting today you can yell things like “98 degrees” without getting a crappy ’90s boyband as a response.

The $249 Ecobee 3 is cool all on its own, but pairing it with your Echo now brings all sorts of new possibilities for heating and cooling your home. You can set times to turn up the heat or AC automatically, or just start barking orders at your electronic assistant when you start to feel a bit of a chill.

It doesn’t require any special vocabulary to use, so just tell it what you want and wait as the magic happens.

The Ecobee 3 is the first thermostat is the first to work directly with the Echo. Previously, you could connect other smart thermostats — like Google’s ‘Nest’ — but they worked through a series of cumbersome if-this-then-that (IFTTT) recipes.
