You can now get viewing stats for your shared Google Docs

You can share Google Docs with as many people as you like, but how many are actually looking at them? Google has rolled out a new feature today to let you know.

By clicking the Discussions button, you should now see a Document Stats link, opening up graphs detailing exactly how many views and discussions the document, spreadsheet or presentation has had over the past seven days.

For people who share lots of documents online publicly, this is particularly useful. Until now, there’s not been a simple way to keep track of who many people were looking at what you shared. However, the stats are still pretty basic and only cover a rolling seven-day period.

Google has also let loose some additional updates to the Discussions area of Docs today. It’s now more neatly laid-out, with collapsible threads and an improved layout for email notifications
