You can get Nike’s self-lacing shoe December 1 (if you have deep pockets)

You can get Nike’s self-lacing shoe December 1 (if you have deep pockets)

Nike’s self-lacing sneaker finally has a release date. After months of passive indifference, we’re mere days from the shoe of the future, at least according to ‘Back to the Future’ protagonist Marty McFly. According to notable sneakerhead Jacques Slade, the consumer version of Nike’s self-lacing sneaker will hit shelves December 1 and for a mere $720. You read it right the first time.

The shoe is set to be Nike’s first consumer foray into self-lacing technology after a limited edition release last year. The first of 89 pairs made went to Marty McFly himself, Michael J. Fox. The other 88 were sold to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.

The limited edition shoe brought considerable interest. One pair even sold at auction for over $100,000.

Now, you can skip the auction house and get yours direct from Nike. But if we’re being honest, at $720, I think I’ll tie my own damn shoes.
