Yahoo! Unleashes Search, Mail and Messenger Apps For Android

Yahoo! Unleashes Search, Mail and Messenger Apps For Android

Yahoo! might not have the impact it once had but it doesn’t stop the search giant from looking to push its products into the mobile arena. If you are an Android user, you will now be able to download Yahoo’s new Search, Mail and Messenger apps to your Google’s flavoured handset.

These apps are Yahoo’s first apps to hit the Android Market and are currently supported on devices that run Android 2.0 and above – good news for Motorola Droid, HTC Evo and Nexus One owners.

Yahoo! Mail and the accompanying Messenger run as separate apps that share common features including a rich-text editor, emoticon support, Yahoo! address book support (including phone contacts) and the ability to share photos stored on your device.

Yahoo’s Full Search and Smart Folders are also supported within Yahoo! Mail, allowing the user to organize messages on the phone which in turn will be synced to the cloud, keeping your mail experience the same throughout.

The Messenger app runs in the background, alerting you to new messages via push notifications and if you live in Canada, Indonesia, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Philippines, Pakistan, Thailand, United States or Vietnam you will be able to send SMS messages from the app itself. In both apps, you can switch between Mail and Messenger apps in a flash by pulling up the menu (see screenshots below).

Yahoo also announced HTML5 support for iPhone users, giving users the opportunity to access their mail quickly, organise messages and view attachments inline.

Downloading the apps to your Android handset is a simple process; either search the Android Market for the specific apps for use the QR codes below:
