Yahoo! India’s newly launched MoviePlex streams full Bollywood movies for free

In direct competition to YouTube’s BoxOffice, Yahoo! India launched MoviePlex on Tuesday, a new website that offers unrestricted streaming of Bollywood movies for free. The service currently has an extremely limited selection of movies and is not interspersed with advertisements yet.

The newly launched website’s tiny selection consists of just eight movies, some of which are Aakrosh, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, Rock On!!, Rann, and Lamhaa. The company says it is working with Indian movie studios to expand that selection to include thousands of movies and will continue offering them for free.

Although the movie pages are studded with banner ads, the movies themselves do not feature any commercials in between, but that may soon change. The website uses Adobe Flash for streaming the movies and they work without any hangups on a regular 4Mbps broadband connection from BSNL.

Unsettlingly enough, in the comments section of the movies, there are some complaints from users in Bengaluru and Mumbai that the service restricts residents of those cities from watching them. If they do not work in your city either, or if you live in one of the cities mentioned above and they do work, let us know in the comments.
