With the launch closer, some details about Microsoft’s App Store for Windows Phone 7 have surfaced.
According to a post on Geeks with Blogs, the WP7 Marketplace will have 16 parent categories with apps classified under sub sections. The list seems quite comprehensive and definitely much better than the current Windows Mobile Marketplace which has 14 parent sections. Some sections have been renamed like Maps & Search is now Navigation. Here’s the list as posted by XNA MVP Chris Williams:
- Books & Reference
– eReader
– Fiction
– Non-fiction
– Reference - Business
- Entertainment
- Finance
- Games
– Action & Adventure
– Board & Classic
– Card & Casino
– Family
– Music
– Puzzle & Trivia
– Shooter
– Sports & Racing
– Strategy
– Xbox Companion - Health & Fitness
– Diet & Nutrition
– Fitness
– Health - Lifestyle
– Community
– Food & Dining
– Out & About
– Shopping - Music & Video
- Navigation
- News & Weather
- Photo
- Productivity
- Social
- Sports
- Tools
- Travel
– City Guides
– Language
– Planning
– Travel Tools
Xbox Companion sounds interesting, not sure what goes in here though, my guess is games that are cross platform. These categories will be added to the Zune Marketplace in coming weeks.
