Windows Marketplace for Mobile shutting down on July 15th

Windows Marketplace for Mobile shutting down on July 15th

Microsoft has just sent out email notifications to Windows Mobile device owners to warn that the Windows Marketplace for Mobile will be shutting down on the 15th of July.

The marketplace website will shut down in July, but users will still be able to purchase and download apps from the marketplace app on their phones, according to My Microsoft Life.

Microsoft’s phone cloud backup service, My Phone, will also be closing, with that service becoming unavailable to consumers on the 7th of August. Some types of content — such as contacts, photographs, and text messages — will be moved over to Windows Live SkyDrive automatically.

There is speculation that we’ll see the current Marketplace URL recycled into a new marketplace when the WP7 Mango update drops.
