Watch Ridley Scott’s film “Life in a Day” for free on YouTube

Watch Ridley Scott’s film “Life in a Day” for free on YouTube

After gaining much attention at Sundance, Berlin and SXSW film festivals this past January, YouTube’s Life in a Day movie is now available on YouTube, according to the official YouTube blog.

The stunning film, which we reviewed after its London premiere, was directed by Oscar-winning Kevin Macdonald, who took over 80,000 submissions and 4,500 hours of footage from 192 countries and created a feature-length documentary reflecting people’s lives on the 24th of July, 2010.

While over 70,000 hours of uploaded video was user-submitted, the team sent 400 cameras out to the developing world to capture 20-30% of the final film. “We filmed the people who don’t have Internet or cameras in order to paint a global picture. I didn’t want a global film that’s just about rich people, or Europeans and North Americans,” said Director Kevin MacDonald.

Tim Partridge, YouTube’s Marketing Manager writes:

After a theatrical release in countries around the world including appearances at the Sundance, Berlin, SXSW and Sydney film festivals, Life in a Day is finally coming home to YouTube—in its entirety, for free.

Starting today you can watch Life in a Day on YouTube, available with subtitles in 25 languages. So if you haven’t seen it yet or want to relive the experience that The Times of London considers “a thrilling piece of cinema” and the Washington Post called “a profound achievement,” now’s your chance.
