A few weeks back, French jet ski champion Franky Zapata released a video testing this amazing hoverboard that can (theoretically) propel its riders up to 10,000 feet in the air.
The video quickly went viral and despite having impressed its viewers, Zapata’s remarkable invention – that he calls the Flyboard Air – left many people in doubt about the authenticity of what they’ve seen.
Last week, however, Zapata put out new footage of him flying the hoverboard that decisively answers the doubts of all the naysayers.
In his latest video, Zapata not only proves the Flyboard Air is real, but also sets a new world record for the longest distance travelled with a (flying) hoverboard.
In front of a small group of supporters and a representative of the Guinness World Records, Zapata rose 50 metres above the ground to fly the hoverboard for a total of 2,252 meters (7,388 feet), completely obliterating Catalin Alexandre Duru’s benchmark of 75.9 meters (905 feet, 2 inches) from last year.
Speaking to the media about his achievement, Zapata said that setting the record ”has really been a life’s work”.
Previously, Zapata had attracted the attention of the Web with another of his inventions called the Dolphin Jetpack – the Flyboard Air’s water-powered predecessor.
