Watch a Tesla Model S Performance spank the pants off of a Dodge Viper SRT10 in a drag race

Electric cars in the minds of many are ponderous affairs, with short ranges and slow speeds. Glorified golf carts, really. That’s not the case for Tesla’s Model S Performance car, which scoots faster than Libby, and can even go toe to toe with more traditional modern American muscle cars.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 can hit 60 in under 5 seconds, and run the quarter-mile in under 13, hitting that milestone at over 113 miles per hour. And the Tesla Model S Performance can smoke it in a drag race.

Now, to the caveats. It could be that the Tesla driver in this case was more skilled, or the Viper commander simply on a bad run. That said, the acceleration of the Tesla vehicle is little short of stunning.
