Twitter is always a source of interesting and intriguing titbits of news and opinion, and today has certainly been no exception. One nugget of information we found today comes courtesy of Twitter user @Tomgara.
On a new website from the United Arab Emirates, you can now pledge allegiance to the Emirate’s president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. And yes we literally mean you can pledge allegiance if you want to. The charter is open to the entire world, regardless of whether or not you’re actually from the UAE, so if you’re in a mood for allegiance – there’s no reason you can’t join in the festivities.
A word of warning, however: by filling out the form you are “posting your loyalty and belongings to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,” although we’re not entirely sure what that entails.
All you have to do is fill in the form with your name, nationality, email address and any additional remarks of loyalty and admiration you might want to add.

So what are they aiming to do with the charter? According to the site:
“This Charter aim to achieve global peace based on the United Arab Emirates platform model to be example for the whole world in peaceful coexistence with love, security, and respect amongst nationalities, religions, and beliefs.” [sic]
The charter will be presented on the 2nd of December, on the occasion of the UAE’s 40th anniversary of national union.

The only question left to answer is, who is behind the new online charter? This is what the site reveals:
“We are who have lived in the territory of the UAE and under its bright sun … And near its generous seas and its good land and under the umbrella of its dedicated sincere leaders, land of Sheikh Zayed bin Nahyan and his brother Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and their brothers…” [sic]
The UAE has certainly proven that it’s ahead of the times in the Middle East, with the Dubai Police on BBM, and the UAE topping the Middle East’s list for Twitter penetration, so it’s not at all surprising that the Gulf nation would create an online allegiance site. And with all that love and good will floating around, it’s no wonder they’ve opened it up for the whole world to take part.
