USA.gov Gets A New Look, Includes Mobile App Gallery

USA.gov, the official website of the US government, unveiled a completely new redesign today along with a mobile apps store.

The new look is much more dynamic and clean, and certainly reflects to some extent how Whitehouse.gov has been developed. Mobile apps are prominently displayed, as well USA.gov’s social media sites, including of course Twitter and Facebook. There is also a mobile version of the site, which is a nice touch.

The app store also has a nice smooth and clean interface and makes it clear what the apps do (however, the USA.gov homepage lacks a big “Apps” button, which they should certainly include). Apps include a main USA.gov app, the White House app, “My TSA”, Product Recalls, FuelEconomy.gov and app for the FBI’s Most Wanted (come on, you know you want that app on you phone!).

White House CIO Vivek Kundra told the Washington Post that the redesign, “was focused on how the average American consumes information and not how the average government employee makes information available.”

Overall these are all major improvements and continues the Obama administration’s commitment to bringing the government’s 24,000 websites into the 21st century, and a nice little present from the government for the Fourth of July.
