US moviegoers can now use PayPal to buy tickets on a mobile with Fandango

US moviegoers can now use PayPal to buy tickets on a mobile with Fandango

Cinema specialist Fandango has linked-up with PayPal to give American film goers more options to purchase tickets through its mobile app, the companies announced today.

The firm has added PayPal’s payment system to its iPhone and Android mobile applications. In addition to booking and paying for tickets, users of the applications can also go paperless with Fandango’s recently introduced mobile barcodes which can be scanned by ticket collectors at more than 1,000 screens belonging to the Regal Entertainment Group.

The addition of PayPal to its mobile payment options comes right after the company added support for the firm to its website, as Rick Butler, Fandango Executive VP and General Manager, explains:

We first offered PayPal as a payment option on the Web, and we’re now pleased to extend it to mobile. More than 20 percent of Fandango’s ticket sales come from mobile devices and PayPal will offer an additional safe, easy and fast payment method for our moviegoers on the go.

Mobile is not just a significant portion of its business, it is also particularly fast growing one, with Fandango claiming that mobile ticket sales have grown 73 percent this year alone. In fact, 2011 itself has been a record breaker for the company, which has broken records for ticket sales, online and mobile traffic, advertising sales and numbers of participating cinemas across the US.

The Fandango apps provide film listings, screening times, trailers, fan alerts, reviews and a search database that allows film fans to peruse listings by actor, director, theater and more. You can find more details, or download them, at the links below.
