UK money-saving app Vouchercloud hits 2m downloads

Vouchercloud has announced that it has just surpassed 2m downloads of its money-saving app, which is currently available on Android and iOS.

Vouchercloud lets users access discount vouchers directly from their mobile, and they can also identify offers located nearby using GPS.

First launched on the iPhone in February 2010, vouchercloud has ranked pretty impressively in the app charts, and since its launch on Android in May this year it seems it has gone from strength to strength, with the imminent BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7 launches likely to help drive uptake even more.

“It’s been a phenomenal few months for us”, says Greg Le Tocq, Managing Director at Vouchercloud. “The vouchering sector has taken off exponentially over the past year – as has mobile marketing – so we are in the right place at the right time and have worked hard to stay ahead of the game. And it shows no sign of slowing down despite an increasingly crowded market place. Downloads per month are increasing and we’re now seeing over 100,000 new users joining us a month.”

Le Tocq also indicated there would be some big developments for 2012. “We have some great new innovations planned for next year, which will take mobile marketing to the next level”, he says.

Le Tocq added that Vouchercloud users have saved over £20m since it was launched in early 2010, covering everything from coffee and pizzas to hotel stays and driving lessons, with 4.5m vouchers downloaded since launch. The most popular category for saving is Restaurants, with a roughly 50/50 split between male/female users.

Back in May, we reported that mobile network Orange had partnered with Vouchercloud in the UK, offering its contract and pay-as-you-go customers at least eight discount offers every month. The inaugural month saw deals offered in-store at Habitat, Malmaison, Headmasters and Fitness First.
