Uber was, surprisingly, still accepting Google Wallet as a form of payment. On May 9, that won’t be the case.
In an email to users, Google is preparing those who rely on Google Wallet to get around town that a transition to Android Pay is necessary for Uber. It joins credit/debit cards and PayPal as payment options for Uber rides.
The downside is that there’s no simple transition for those who don’t already have Android Pay set up. Uber notes that Android Pay will present itself as a payment option in-app and no update is needed.
To help ease the transition, Uber is offering $10 off your next ride paid for with Android Pay. That’s probably enough reason to give it a shot.
