Uber has announced that it is resuming its cab service in the Indian capital of New Delhi, where it was banned last month when an Uber driver allegedly raped a passenger.
The company said in a blog post that it has applied for a license under the Radio Taxi Scheme in India so as to comply with local authorities’ regulations for such services.
As it resumes operation in New Delhi, Uber says that it is only allowing drivers whose police clearances have been re-verified in the last six weeks back on the road.
The company is also putting its own background check system in place to review drivers and their vehicle documentation.

Uber says it is continuing to work with government transport agencies to introduce new rules for on-demand transportation technology firms.
The company is also implementing a range of new safety features, including physical GPS devices on board and in-app buttons for passengers to share their trip details with their contacts and signal an emergency situation.
