Amazon drops Grubhub and puts Uber Eats inside its own app

Prime members can order Uber Eats on Amazon with no delivery fee on orders over $25. The same day, Lyft launched a $9.99 membership that bundles DoorDash.

Uber Eats is now Amazon’s restaurant delivery partner for Prime members in the US, replacing Grubhub. The two companies announced the deal on Thursday.

Prime members can now order Uber Eats on Amazon, on the website or in the Amazon Shopping app, without an Uber account. They pay no delivery fee on orders of $25 or more. Amazon handles the login, the payment and the delivery alerts, and Uber Eats sends the final confirmation.

“Together with Amazon, we built an experience for Prime members designed to make restaurant delivery feel as natural, convenient, and affordable as ordering anything else on Uber Eats.” Andrew Macdonald, president and COO, Uber

The service covers hundreds of thousands of restaurants in nearly 10,000 US cities and towns, the companies said. It also applies to Amazon’s half-price Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access plans.

Grubhub is out

Amazon’s deal with Grubhub ended on Thursday, an Amazon spokesperson told TechCrunch, and Grubhub confirmed it. Prime members can no longer order Grubhub through Amazon. Those who had already activated Grubhub+ can keep using it until 31 December 2027, Kirsten Korosec reported.

Amazon and Uber already work together on cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis and Alexa+, according to TechCrunch. Amazon’s Zoox began charging for rides this summer.

An Uber spokesperson declined to discuss the commercial terms, including whether Uber pays Amazon a referral fee, Bloomberg reported. The deal comes a week after DoorDash agreed to buy Instacart, a deal Uber had walked away from.

Delivery is Uber’s fastest-growing large business. Its delivery gross bookings rose 22% to $28.5bn in the third quarter, Uber reported on Wednesday. Last month it agreed to buy ezCater for workplace catering.

What Prime members pay

The $0 delivery fee does not cover service fees, which still apply, Amazon told GeekWire. Uber One subscribers keep their own benefits, but the two memberships work separately.

Amazon estimates Prime members could save more than $175 a year, more than the $139 annual Prime fee. It bases that on August 2026 order data, compared with ordering on Uber Eats without Uber One. New users get $20 off their first two orders of $25 or more within 14 days.

Lyft brings in DoorDash

Lyft made its own delivery move on the same day. It launched Lyft Go, a $9.99 monthly membership that includes DoorDash’s DashPass. Members get 8% back in Lyft credits, which they can spend on rides or DoorDash orders.

“With Lyft Go, your ride to work or your ride home from the airport can help cover the cost of dinner.” Siddharth Patil, chief rideshare officer, Lyft

Lyft Go replaces Lyft Pink, and current Pink members move over at the same price. A cheaper Lyft Go Core tier costs $4.99 a month and gives 5% back on rides only. Neither plan includes free bike or scooter unlocks, which stay with the $199 Pink All-Access tier, Bloomberg reported.
