Twitter is testing highlights in your notifications

Twitter is testing highlights in your notifications

Twitter is experimenting with new notifications that show users their most popular tweets in the Notifications tab, as well as mentions from prominent users.

The trial displays tweets that have received the most views in your notifications tab. The analytics button reveals stats like the number of impressions and engagement counts. However, it appears to only be showing for a few verified users at present.

We also noticed a new ‘noteworthy mention’ that was likely highlighted because it came from a user who interacts regularly or because they’re verified and have a large following.

A third notification type, called ‘Top Follow’, informs you of a prominent Twitter user that’s just followed you.

Twitter confirmed the tests in a statement to BuzzFeed, saying:

We’re experimenting with highlighting notable Tweets and activity in some verified users’ notifications timelines. These are Tweets and activity they might otherwise miss due to the large volume of notifications these users tend to receive on a daily basis.

As with most Twitter experiments, it’s hard to tell if these notifications will roll out more widely, until they actually do.
