Twitter is finally fixing the Quote Tweet button

Twitter is finally fixing one of the worst things about its services: the “Quote Tweet” button.

In an update that’s rolling out today, the button now embeds the tweet instead of just quoting it as text.

Previously, when you hit “quote tweet” on mobile, it just loaded the text of the entire tweet into the compose window. From today for iOS users, it’ll embed the tweet instead.

There are so many reasons to be excited about this change: quoted tweets looked messy in the feed, didn’t retain the full context and meant that you didn’t have much space to reply.

With this new change, you can use 116 characters to add your comment, as opposed to whatever was left over in the past.

The new Quote Tweet button is rolling out to iPhone and Web users now and Android users in the near future.

UPDATE: In an interesting development, The Next Web understands that there are plans for Twitter’s API to support the updated ‘Quote Tweet’ feature. That means that third party apps like Tweetbot could one day support it too. It’s rare for new Twitter features to make that path these days, but at least there’s hope if you’re not keen on the official apps.
