Twitter has launched new World Cup-specific features for users today designed to make it easy to keep up with your team’s progress in Brazil .
One of the features isn’t actually new, rather it’s the reintroduction of the hashflags feature which was last used for the 2010 World Cup. This option makes it easy to pledge support to your national side across the social network simply by entering a # followed by your three-letter country code (FRA, GER, BRA, etc.).

As well as displaying the national flag, Twitter will be tallying the tweets containing hashflags and unveiling “the World Cup of Tweets”. Voting for your country is as simply as making a choice on this screen.
Soccer fans can keep up to date on all the tournament action via the #WorldCup and #WorldCup2014 timelines too, which include tweets from players, coaches and teams, as well as people you follow. Match timelines will show tweets about games happening in real-time, displaying stats like fouls, saves, goals and more, Twitter said.
And if it’s your first time visiting Twitter during the competition, there’s now the option to select your team as part of the sign-up process, which then gives access to a number of custom headers and profile photos.
