Well it appears the release of Twitter for iPhone is just around the corner as Tweetie 2 makes its final exit from the App Store.

Tweetie’s recent update saw a slot machine included as part of the release, while odd at first it was an interesting little addition that had you pull the slot machine lever to reveal a “Coming Soon: Tweetie will be Twitter for iPhone.”

Twitter acquired Atebits (the company behind Tweetie) and its lead developer Loren Brichter just over a month ago and announced it would be rebranding tweetie as “twitter for iPhone”. The company also announced that an official ‘twitter for iPad’ app would be developed by Brichter as his first major project upon joining the company.

Twitter has since launched its Android app, read our review of the app here.
