Tradeshift, which already has some pretty big partners on its books, has today announced a “multi-million dollar” deal with Intuit that will see the company’s social invoicing and payments service made available to users of the QuickBooks accounting software.
Tradeshift started out as a fresh way to handle invoicing online, but has since expanded via a range of apps that allow users to add functionality like quotes and purchase orders. Existing names among Tradeshift’s 150,000 customers include the UK’s National Health Service and wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems. Now the deal with Intuit will open up the QuickBooks customer base (numbering more than 5 million, according to Tradeshift) as potential users.
QuickBooks users in the UK are first in line to gain access to the integration via a free app that connects their Tradeshift and QuickBooks Online accounts. More countries will roll out soon.
As Tradeshift CEO and co-founder, Christian Lanng notes in a blog post announcing the deal, this is a real boost in scale for the company. “The value of any communications network increases directly in proportion to number of users — and when it reaches a point where it includes most of the businesses you want to interact with, something amazing happens.”
With QuickBooks users being able to use Tradeshift for invoicing, integrated with their existing accounting software, the chances are that they will naturally encourage others that they invoice to move over to Tradeshift. This really is a significant leap in potential user count for the company.
Tradeshift was founded in Denmark before relocating its head office to San Francisco. It’s free for small businesses and is also available as a paid-for enterprise service.
