After eight months of development, the popular iPhone photo filter app FilterMania just got a big upgrade, its developer Dropico Mobile announced today. Now known as FilterMania 2, it includes several improvements, including the addition of a ‘Filter Market’ in which users will find over 300 free new filters.
That’s obviously a much larger number of effects than the ones offered by Instagram – which is a good thing for FilterMania 2, as it would otherwise be hard to compete against such a giant (not to mention Facebook looming in its shadow.) While Instagram opted for a handful of vintage filters, FilterMania 2 hopes to make the most of your iPhone’s screen – and highlight its graphic qualities with stunning images.
As you can see above, FilterMania lets you share your pictures – both inside and outside the app – while keeping an eye on the most interesting creations its filter-addicted community has come up with.
As you may also notice while testing it, the app provides so many filters that you could easily go overboard, and you will have to rely on your good taste to avoid kitsch results. Here’s an example of some of the options it offers:
Despite the very large number of available options, we can confirm FilterMania is very fast and easy to use – we first tested the revamped app for ourselves when we first met Dropico’s team at TC Disrupt in New York last month.
Don’t be surprised if you are already familiar with Dropico’s name; this Israeli development studio specializes in photo-related apps, and we have already covered several of them in the past, such as its Facebook Photo Importer and Google Plus Photo Importer. More recently, it launched a neat iPhone cover creation tool called CaseApp, in partnership with another Israeli startup, Tap2Print. Still, the company describes FilterMania 2 as its most ambitious release to this date, and we encourage you to give it a try.
