It looks like a Lego character, but don’t let Mr. Evolta fool you. At just 6′ 7″ the green and white bot has scaled up a rope of more than 1700 ft. in less than 7 hours at the Grand Canyon, has walked the 311 miles from Tokyo to the old Japanese capital of Kyoto and driven the Le Mans racetrack for 24 hours. His 4th challenge will be taking on Hawaii’s grueling Ironman triathlon course.
And he’s only slightly cheating. Technically, 3 different Mr. Evolta robots will take on the triathlon- one swimmer, biker and runner. I don’t want to take away from this feat though, the course is rigorous with wild waves, rough winds and a run through the city of Kailua Kona. This is a very cool look at how energy efficient yet technically advanced robots can be.
Developer Tomotaka Takahashi created the Mr. Evolta Robot “to symbolize Panasonic’s Alkaline Battery power” and says the bot will only need 3 rechargeable batteries to complete the course.
The Hawaiian Ironman is scheduled to begin on October 24, 2011 and will continue non-stop for seven days and nights. Mr. Evolta will swim 2.36 miles, bike 111.8 miles, and then run a full marathon, but since he’s so small I imagine he’ll get a bit more time to do so.
