The world of luxury yachts isn’t something we dip into a lot here at The Next Web, but when one comes along and looks so much like a cross between the ancient pyramids of the past and any UFO-like craft depicted by sci-fi fantasy, I just couldn’t resist.

According to design Jonathan Swinge, the futuristic Tetrahedron superyacht is designed to rise up out of the water as it increases in speed in order to help give a smoother ride in rough conditions.

To do this, it would use three hulls and a strut to help lift the yacht as it gains speed, and while it might look like it’s from a sci-fi movie, the concept is based on hull designs that have been around since the mid-90s, so building it is entirely possible. In theory.

When not zipping across the oceans, the sides of the carbon-fibre Tetrahedron are designed to fold down to provide additional deck areas.

Whether or not it will ever exist is a different question, but if it does, I definitely want an invite to test out this weird transforming UFO pyramid thing of the future.
