Just when you thought that Star Wars fandom had gone further than it could ever go, this project shows that the community which loves its films featuring Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Yoda, has a lot more left in the tank.

A team of folks started the site StarWarsUncut, chopped up the film into 15 second increments, and ask the Internet to re-film the pieces in any way they liked. After all was said and done, they’d stitch it back together.

Here’s the story behind the project from the folks who came up with it:

The Story:

In 2009, thousands of Internet users were asked to remake “Star Wars: A New Hope” into a fan film, 15 seconds at a time. Contributors were allowed to recreate scenes from Star Wars however they wanted. Within just a few months SWU grew into a wild success. The creativity that poured into the project was unimaginable.

SWU has been featured in documentaries, news features and conferences around the world for its unique appeal. In 2010 we won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media.

Here’s the film that was two years in the making, all two hours of it. This is Star Wars glued back together from crowdsourced clips involving animation, LEGO, real actors of all ages, shapes and sizes, and everything in between:
