These 16 neighborhoods are so hot right now says Airbnb

Airbnb has proclaimed what it thinks are going to be the 16 hottest neighborhoods to visit in 2016. The company crunched the numbers on 40 million stays in the past year to help determine which areas experienced the most growth.

Surprisingly the Chūō-ku district in Osaka, Japan came out way way way on top with 7,000 percent growth in the past year. The ward houses Osaka castle and Amerikamura, a shopping district with a tiny version of the Statue of Liberty.

In second place was Banglamphu in Bangkok which contains the Thai capital’s sprawling backpacking district and Khao San Road.

The survey also discovered 74 percent of Airbnb listings are located outside of the traditional downtown districts.

“When an Airbnb traveler heads to Hammerbrook in Hamburg or Brickfields in Kuala Lumpur, with the help of hosts, they are able to see these places through eyes of a local, and embrace the culture in a completely new way,” said Chip Conley, Head of Hospitality.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, there are no neighborhoods in London on the list as local lawmakers are trying to ban a large chunk of listings in the British capital.

The full list along with their percentage growth over 2015 can be found below.
