Speedtest.net is something of an institution for checking how quick your internet speed is, but it’s been stuck in the past for years using Adobe Flash to perform the test.
Good news: as Ookla, the company behind Speedtest, has finally begun testing a HTML5 version of the service and it’s better than ever.
You won’t be needing any plugins anymore, as the new and improved version performs everything in your browser without any additional requirements.
Sure, it’s hard to get excited about a speed-testing site in general, but it’s a good harbinger of the inevitable death of Adobe Flash.
As fewer important tools rely on Flash it gets easier to drop it entirely from our computers — we just need Netflix and Hulu to fully say goodbye so we can get rid of it forever.
