Roost, the battery that connects your dumb smoke alarm, is now available for purchase.
The 9V battery links to your Wi-Fi network via an app (available for iOS or Android), and lets you know when it’s about to run out so you can avoid those late-night battery swaps as your smoke alarm screams at you. Roost says its battery will last five years, so you won’t get many notifications to change it.
It also tells you when your smoke alarm sounds, if you’re away from home. To avoid errant alarms, Roost also has a snooze function. If you know that blackened catfish will make your ears ring, you can toggle your smoke alarm’s battery off for a bit.
For those saddled with dumb smoke alarms, Roost is a clever upgrade.
