The iPhone Speed Comparison Video: Just How Far Has It Evolved?

The iPhone Speed Comparison Video: Just How Far Has It Evolved?

Typically, Apple refreshes its iPhone every year, adding extra features to give the device more processing power or extended functionality. It’s been three years since the iPhone 2G was released, with the iPhone 4 (and its associated issues) launching just last month.

How has the device improved over this three year period? We have stumbled across a video demonstrating the world’s leading smartphone handset, offering a side-by-side speed comparison of the four iPhone devices (2G/3G/3GS/4) that Apple has released during that period.

The test is by no means scientific and some of the tests also rely on the iPhone’s networking ability to download data in the Google Earth test. What it does demonstrate however, is the performance difference between the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 (or lack thereof); although it could be limitations of the apps themselves, not the processing power or capabilities of the iPhone hardware itself.

The iPhone 4 also brings with it a huge amount of extra functionality, including its Retina Display, HD recording and 5MP camera, so don’t be too alarmed if you had your heart set on upgrading.

What do you think? Do you own a 3GS and suddenly feel better for not upgrading? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
