The countdown to Google I/O 2016 has begun, registration opens March 8

The official Google I/O 2016 website is now up and running with its familiar countdown timer, and tells us registration will open March 8. The event is May 18-20.

As is typically the case, tickets cost $900 for everyone but students, who can get in for $300.

And just as it was last year, developers will have two days to submit an application to attend. After March 10, Google will randomly select tickets, and invitations will be sent via email.

If you want to keep up to date on all things I/O, Google suggests you follow its developer account on Google Plus and Twitter, and check out the #io16 hashtag.

I/O is heading to Shoreline Amphitheater this year, where the event actually began. It has been held at Moscone West for the past several years, so it’ll be interesting to see what Google does with a more open space.

Of course, we’ll be in attendance, so if you don’t find yourself with a ticket — we’ll keep you up to date on all the cool stuff Google announces.

Update: A previous version of this article said registration began May 8. It has been corrected to reflect the proper date.
