Telus announces its 4G Network

4GTelus, a major wireless provider in Canada has just announced that its 4G network will be rolled-out in March, aiming to bring customers download speeds of up to 42 Mbps on selected devices.

The companies new fourth generation network is a Dual Cell upgrade to the HSPA + (DC-HSPA+) technology and Telus says its 4G network is capable of “extremely fast” speeds, referring to the manufacturer’s rated peak download speeds of up to 42 Mbps down and 11Mbps while uploading.

Sierra Wireless AirCard 319U 4G will be the first product in Telus’ line to be put on its newest Dual Cell upgraded network. Sierra’s card slated to be launched in March during the network upgrade is a portable modem that takes advantage of the 42 Mbps download speeds Telus is boasting.

Telus says this new upgrade is an interim step towards LTE (Long Term Evolution wireless network technology), and it will be available coast to coast. The mobile speeds sound pretty great but we implore you to read the fine print:

Speed may vary due to the device being used, network congestion, distance from the cell site, local conditions and other factors

Based on TELUS’ tests of data throughput speeds in large Canadian urban centres available from national HSPA+ service providers. Internet access speed provided by the network operator may vary due to the device being used, network congestion, distance from the cell site, local conditions and other factors. Speed on the Internet is beyond the wireless network operator’s control and may vary with your configuration, internet traffic, website server and management policies, and other factors

Canada is an innovation leader in communications technology, and TELUS is at the forefront, bringing our customers the most advanced wireless technology available. Dual Cell is just the latest example of our commitment to offer our clients the latest and greatest available technology,– Eros Spadotto, executive vice-president of Technology Strategy at TELUS
