Tata Motors, the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover, has revealed its Avinya concept EV, which previews the automaker’s vision of its next-gen electric cars.
On the outside, the Avinya is a bit peculiar. It combines the elements of a hatchback, an SUV, and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), which was a conscious choice of Tata in its attempt to create a unique silhouette.
Its distinct look is accentuated by its suicide doors, an almost flat roofline, and the replacement of side mirrors with cameras.
But what really sets the Avinya apart from other recent concept EVs is its extremely minimalistic interior.
As you see on the video below, the Avinya does away with fluffy decorations and top-notch gadgets.
Instead, the company focused on the feel of the materials, the sense of space, and the flow of natural light.
What’s even more surprising, is that the Avinya is nearly screenless — in sharp contrast to the automakers’ tendency towards large floating screens throughout the cabin.
The EV has only one digital console attached to the steering wheel, which provides the driver with all the necessary information and functionalities. The passengers can still interact with the vehicle through a voice activated system, accessed through individual soundbars.
As for the car’s performance, details are scarce. Built on Tata’s Gen 3 electric platform, the Avinya is expected to come with a 500km range (300 miles), with the promise of ultra-fast charging capability — the company claims a mere 30 minutes for a full charge.
While we can’t expect that the exact same vehicle will make it into life, the real-world product based on the Avinya is set to roll out in 2025. Fingers crossed some parts of its minimalist character stay.
