Only a week after launching free WiFi across 650 outlets in the UK, Starbucks today launched its iTunes ‘Pick of the Week’ feature in the country, according to a report by The Telegraph.
Henceforth, customers visiting Starbucks coffee shops will be given an iTunes gift card that they can redeem on the iTunes Store within 60 days to grab the free download. The service kicks off with James Morrison’s In My Dreams and is also giving out the book Limitless by Alan Glynn (ordinarily priced at $9.99) this week.
Starbucks’ “Pick of the Week” was launched in the United States and Canada in 2006 and was later joined by content from other providers such as The New York Times, Patch, USA TODAY, The Wall Street Journal, Yahoo! and ZAGAT.
None of those other offerings are currently available to the company’s UK customers, but Brian Waring, the vice president of marketing and category for Starbucks UK and Ireland, said in a statement that content partnerships were key to the company’s online strategy and that it had “an extremely exciting digital programme ahead for 2012.”
If you reside in the UK and decide to visit your local Starbucks this week, be sure to get in some Web browsing time in and grab the free book and the song along with your cuppa.
