People are still analyzing all the clues in the trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi,’ and yet it’s already time to look forward to the movie after it: Disney and LucasFilm today announced ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ will be released on May 24, 2019.
That’s earlier than most of us were hoping for. If you recall, ‘The Force Awakens’ was released in December 2015, and ‘The Last Jedi’ comes out this December, setting them almost exactly 2 years apart. Episode IX instead will launch a year and a half after its predecessor, which means people in cooler climates won’t have to freeze waiting in line for midnight screenings.
Disney isn’t saying why it’s cutting the gap between the last two entries in the series, but it probably wants to take advantage of the fact that summer blockbusters are typically the most prolific movies. Of course, the film could still get delayed, so don’t plan your vacation days around it – just be happy you’re probably getting the last Star Wars movie sooner than expected.
