Spotify has announced a partnership with music info and lyrics app Genius that will let Spotify users get more info about the music they are listening to with the press of a button.
For the Spotify integration, Genius says it had to strip back its service to the core essentials, and in doing so, created a new feature it’s calling ‘Fact Tracks.’
In essence, these are short pieces of info relevant to the track that are displayed in time with the music.
Displaying each nugget of info at the correct time does somewhat limit how much can be displayed at once, and if there are no factoids to share, you get the lyrics anyway.
For now, only Genius-powered tracks on the new Genius X playlist called ‘Behind the Lyrics with Genius (Hip-Hop)‘ offer the ‘Fact Tracks’. The company says there are also three artist playlists too – from Pusha T, Tinashe and Diplo – but that a pop-focused one will arrive imminently.
Unfortunately for Android owners, the feature is iPhone-only right now, but you can also check out ‘Fact Tracks’ on the desktop version of Spotify.
