Spotify hit with lawsuit from record label Ministry of Sound over compilation playlists

Dance music record label Ministry of Sound London is suing Spotify for copyright infringement, alleging that the online music streaming service refused to remove playlists that copy its compilations despite repeated requests since 2012, The Guardian reports.

The record label started legal proceedings in the UK High Court on Monday. Besides seeking an injunction demanding Spotify to delete the related playlists and permanently block other playlists that copy Ministry of Sound’s compilations, it is also asking for damages and costs, though the exact figure is unknown.

A Spotify spokesperson is said to have acknowledged the existence of the lawsuit, but declined to provide further details.
