SoundCloud launches Pulse for Android to help artists keep in touch with fans on the go

SoundCloud suffered some criticism for stripping creator-focused features out of its mobile apps last year but now it’s making amends with the launch of Pulse, a new Android app that allows artists to view the latest fan activity and listening stats for the tracks on the go.

The app is pretty bare-bones right now, with an activity feed for likes, shares and follows, and tabs for whole-account listening stats and the stats for individual tracks. You can also reply to comments on tracks and share your uploaded tracks via other apps on your phone.

Pulse is a handy tool to have if you’re active on SoundCloud as a creator but the company knows it could do a lot more. Extra stats, the ability to edit track information and upload tracks, plus more messaging features are all promised for the future, as is an iOS version of the app.

It’s good to see SoundCloud give some attention to the creators that make it what it is. It’s long been accused of putting the needs of listeners first, and thus risking putting off the people who create the content those listeners… er, listen to.
